Shawndell Marks to Peform at the Door County Outpost Gallery and Cafe.
Her music is described as "soulful and honest...flows through the heart into the entire body, making it impossible to stand still...bittersweet truths of life, love and healing....”
Marks will perform material from her latest album Remnants of Crazy, a collection of songs written after losing her father to mental illness. Marks is currently working on recording another CD and will be introducing material from this work as well. Expect to be highly entertained.
Marks has been a professional musician for several years. She has been compared to Norah Jones, Jewel and Stevie Nicks, although her sound is truly unique. Together with her band, she fuses blues, jazz and rock influences with intensely emotional lyrics to call her music soul-rock. “...like Sarah McLachlan meets Fleetwood Mac,” she explains. She performed with the cover band
Thunder Road for 11 years, opening for acts such as George Jones, Blackhawk and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, but is now pursing a solo career.
While the musicianship and vocal abilities of Marks and her band mates are strong, the thought-provoking lyrics are often what reaches out and grabs the listener's attention, inviting them to reflect on their own life's experiences. Marks strives to evoke movement, physically and emotionally, through her music. “I encourage folks to close their eyes, become involved and actively listen. Some are truly moved. Others, simply entertained. Either way, what an honor it is for us to have Shawndell Marks perform at the Door County Outpost Gallery and Café.
